It seems to me, what with all the hipsterisms in ANDROMEDA's dialog, that Dylan Hunt's name comes from Bob Dylan, who in turn got his name from Dylan Thomas. Now, the script poetry on the program that starts episodes out, and sometimes the titles, sound like Dylan Thomas' poems. But I'd suggest that that's a double inspiration for his name. Bob Dylan is also taken into account in the conception of the show and its characters. Look at one of Bob Dylan's earliest folk-rock pieces, and compare it to the show:
"I'm on the pavement, thinking about the government."
"The pump don't work cause the vandal's at the handle."
"The girl by the whirlpool's looking for a new fool."
"Get born, reborn, bad job, laid off.."
Dylan Hunt's first speech is a whole lot like what this song by Bob Dylan said: "Don't follow leaders, watch your parking meters."
"learn to dress, get blessed, try to be a suck-cess"
It's difficult for me to believe that Bob Dylan's musical ideas don't form part of the plot and some of the dialog of this series.
