ive come into this thread really late and you've probably gone completly off the origional subject but ill have my say anyway! tongue.gif

my favourate fantasy GAMEs have got to be Zelda on the N64 and Fable on the XBox. You just cant beat em!

Fable is a game every gamer would love, if someones not familiar with it, basically you play a character from the age of about 10yrs to adulthood deciding whether they take the path of good or evil.

They say, its supposed to reflect your own character and you notice similarities between yourself and your hero. now seeing as im a small fair female and my hero is a hulking broad man with battle scars and rippling muscles, ive not seen many similarities as yet laugh.gif

We live on a mountain, right at the top. This beautiful view, from the top of the mountain. Every morning, i walk to the edge and throw little things off. Like car parts bottles and cutlery, whatever i find lying around. It becomes a habbit, a way to start the day.

Well, they say we men are supposed to have a feminine side, made this is the male side for the females. wink.gif

hi everyone...newbie here happy.gif

I want to add my two cents...if it's about tv fantasy shows we're talking about than I'd like to add my fave:

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World

It's based on the book by SACD and it's full of adventure, excitment, cliffhangers, and of course a little romance thrown in there...cool show!!!

Hi there, barbiedahl. Great to have you on board.

I remember watching maybe one episode of The Lost World, but just couldn't get into it. Are they still producing new episodes? If so, I'll need to check it out again.

Oh, by the way. The avatar you selected is already in use here. Not that there's anything wrong with using it, but it does make it easier for us to recognize who's posting without having to hunt down the name on the screen. Just a suggestion.

Hope you stick around. Enjoy the board.

Loved the Cronicles of Narnia...got me into Fantisy. Thats all i have to say on that.

Xanth series people! Really good...lots of plays on words, but it gets twisty near the later books

Re: Tad Williams, I'm reading the Dragonbone Chair right now, and I have to say his writing drags a little.

Another good one it the Circle of Magic series, but start with the first book, I didn't and it bited (can you even do that? say "bites" in the past tense?)

Fourth Point: If you use technology, its science fiction. If you use magic, its fantisy.

Same with me and the chronicles of narnia

my favourite fantasy book of all time has got to be the wizards first rule

and my favourite series has got to be the sword of truth series.

Really good fantasy book series - "The Black Magician Trilogy" by Trudie Canavan.

TV wise, not sure if it counts but like all Joss Whedon's stuff and quite enjoyed "The Tenth Kingdom", friend of mine has it on dvd.

Looking forward to "V for Vendetta" coming out, though again not sure anything based on Alan Moore's work would be classed as fantasy.

The Chronicles of Narnia are always good to read IMHO, and I also enjoy Terry Prachett's Discworld novels.

Reviving a dead topic but I've been gone awhile so...

I've been really into the Dragonlance series recently... I've reread all of it that I have in like the last month (thats 10 books, all at least a few hundred pages). I prefer the ones by Margret Weis/Tracy Hickman

Harry Potter is good fantasy if you want something lighter (not quite sure why some of you were classifing it as a mystery. It has some elements of a mystery but not a lot of them. And even if it does simply use fantasy as a plot device it is still fantasy). (J.K. Rowling if anyone didn't know...)

LotR is always good even if it is a bit difficult to get through... (J.R.R. Tolkien)

Anything by Tamora Pierce is good, especially for those of us who are a bit younger...

MAR (manga/anime) is fun. It's set in a different world with a bunch of characters based off of characters from fairy tales (ex. princess named Snow who was encased in ice) (I don't remember this author's name but it's by the same author as Flame of Recca (another good series))

We're reading Paradise Lost (John Milton) in my AP English class right now. It's the thing I've liked most this year even if it is a bit difficult... I'm not sure if it would be classified as fantasy or theology or what though.

~MS

drgnsafyre, it's bit btw (if you still care...)

LOTR is of course the grandaddy... even though it may seem a bit thick and worn out with all the movies, etc. But you really see it's greatness when you read the SILMARILLION. Nothing comes close!
