Now..
Any other "Brits"on the board?
I"ve a friend who, like me,is a MASSIVE fan of the classy "Dr Who"..What I wondered was, does anyone rate "Star Trek"(from Next Gen "onwards) as Better..and why?

Welcome from England. I will proudly admit that I loved Dr Who. I still have my Dr Who Tartus made of tin that I could use as a bank. It had the best Dr on it, Thomas Baker (I think that was his name, the one with the scarf). I have been able to see it on my satellite dish on my BBC America channel. The only problem is that they don't show it enough. I would love to see the Scifi Channel broadcast it. I am sure they could show it in the mornings when they are showing things like the 60's Twilight Zone or Dard Shadows.

Gordon Bennett!

I grew up watching "Doctor Who" in--of all places--the American midwest on my local PBS station. During the '80s, "Doctor Who" had an extremely strong American following that very nearly rivaled "Star Trek"--and I do mean the original series.

I was fortunate to have been able to see episodes of all the Doctors--and grew to appreciate them all in different ways (as the Brigadier would say, "Excellent chap...all of them").

I think "Doctor Who" had quite an impact on me growing up--I even think some of the Doctor's personas rubbed off on me when I was impressionable, and even today I catch myself sometimes acting like different Doctors with certain expressions...

As I said, it had QUITE an impact on me...

I still have an electronic 8-inch TARDIS with a 7th Doctor action figure on my desk as a reminder of the good times I had with that show.

I'd probably collapse and regenerate out of sheer shock if the BBC finally decides--after 14 years of false alarms--to actually bring the series back for its 40th anniversary this year...

Old(er) person as I am I have never seen Dr. Who but my interest has definity been tweaked. If the scifi channel has enough smarts to start rebroadcasting the series I certainly will tune in(even tho I will always be a true blue trekker)
And let me say welcome to England from New York in the U-S-of-A. Any of you guys from London? Had the oportunity to spend a week there and fell in love with the place. Also had the chance to visit Stonehenge-awesome!
Any way I'll be watching Scifi Channel and maybe Dr. Who will turn up.

Oh - and as to the subject of the thread...

I very much enjoyed Dr. Who (though haven't been able to watch all doctors - my PBS station when I was younger loved to rerun the Tom Baker years to death and give us only a few episodes of the others sad.gif ) I don't know if I think it better than Trek....I try not to judge one show against another too much as all have their merits (well, most have at least some merit) and faults and Dr. Who is a VERY different show from Trek.
