This year's Groundhog's Day festivities won't be complete until William Shatner awards the Golden Groundhog to the Best Underground Movie of 2005. The ceremony will be held February 2, 2006 in an "underground" location, and take place at 7 PM PST.
The Golden Groundhog Awards were established to recognize genuinely outstanding films that lacked the distribution and marketing support needed to become the blockbuster hits they deserved to be. William Shatner was asked to host these awards largely because he recently founded a DVD Club which identifies phenomenal but unheralded sci-fi and fantasy films, and offers them to customers for just $4 each, which is similar to the mission of the Golden Groundhogs.
Nearly 100,000 movie fans have voted for their favorite Golden Groundhog nominee at www.goldengroundhogs.com, where you can find information on this year's nominees, the awards ceremony, and host William Shatner.
