Dr Who DVDs to hit US

It's odd for DVDs to hit shelves before a series has aired, but the BBC has decided to release Season One of Dr. Who to US stores before it airs here.

Burton Cromer, vice president of BBC Direct, did say it will also air on US Television - though exactly which station will air it is yet to be determined.

The updated Dr. Who (about a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey) has become a smash hit in the BBC after debuting earlier this year. The original series which ended production more than 10 years ago had aired on PBS stations in the US for years creating a huge fan base here as well.

The complete first season with all episodes starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper will be released in the US on February 14, 2006. The show is currently gearing up production of its second UK season with a special Christmas episode.
