Firefly comes to DVD - MAY NOT be dead!

Just when you thought you heard the name Firefly for the last time, Joss Whedon is saying, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no!"

Joss Whedon recently told Robert Bianco of USA Today that the show may not be on the air, but he's not quite ready to say goodbye to his science-fiction western just yet.

"I still haven't given up on 'Firefly,' which may seem strange since it's been off the air for months," Whedon said. "If I can find a new home for Firefly, TV or movies or any damn thing, it will soften the blow."

Whedon said that he still remained hurt that the series - which had no aliens in it, based on Whedon's belief that we are alone in the universe - only lasted half a season on Fox last year. In the meantime, he has given some of the actors from that series some work on his other properties. Two
of the stars, Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres, have found work on UPN's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and The WB's "Angel" respectively. Fillion plays Caleb, a cleric servant of The First in Buffy the Vampire Slayer while Torres has become Jasmine, the big-time charming bad guy of Angel.

"They're very different roles," Whedon said. "Gina gets to be all pretty, so she's happy. And Nathan gets to be evil, so he's having a ball."

Whedon also announced that Firefly will indeed be coming to DVD. The widescreen-formal series is expected to be released by Fox Home Video around December, with commentary being provided by Whedon. 4/18/03
