Unedited chat transcript of the September 18 chat with Scott Bakula. I'll fancy it up as time permits, but here is the info! DishDiva says: Scott, welcome to MSN! It is great to have you here today! Where are you joining us from today? Scott_Bakula_Live says: From my trailer on the set at Paramount. DishDiva says: We have thousands of questions as you can imagine, so let's get started! Spotted_Benjimen_2nd in Onstage3 asks: Does it take a lot of talent to lean over in the Captain's Chair when the Enterprise tilts? Scott_Bakula_Live says: (laughs) More than you could ever know. SimpleAndrea508 in Onstage1 asks: Will there ever be a romance between Archer and any other character on Enterprise? Scott_Bakula_Live says: There will be some hintings at some relationships developing this year, yes. ethicalOne_Bama in Onstage3 asks: Was it great working with Al (Quantum Leap) again, and will we be seeing him in the future? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Dean and I had a blast working together. It was the first time we had worked together since "Quantum" and my hopes are that we do get to bring him back again. I do know that Dean will be a semi-regular at "JAG." Morgana__9 in Onstage1 asks: Your role in Quantum Leap provided the opportunity for you to use your diverse talents including singing, dancing and playing instruments. Do you miss that on Enterprise and do you think the role can expand to include these elements, if you were to want i Scott_Bakula_Live says: I don't miss them yet on "Enterprise" we have so much territory to explore, in terms of character, but I'm sure that there will come a time when the writers will find a fun way to incorporate some of those ideas. PamelaJayeAshworth in Onstage1 asks: I was lucky enough to see you in St Louis this summer. Didn't get to tell you you were wonderful! Please tell Chelsea she was amazing too! Are you still taking voice? (and when do you have the time!?) Are there any other two-person musicals out there? Scott_Bakula_Live says: It's hard to find time to do much once the season starts. There are a few other two character musicals, but none as challenging as "I do, I do." Thanks again for attending the fundraiser. OverripeChain in Onstage3 asks: Do you ever feel embarassed, watching yourself on tv? If your charactor does something corny? Scott_Bakula_Live says: I don't get embarrassed when I see myself on TV unless I'm doing a bad job of acting. (laughs) Or if something is in the show that I wasn't expecting. Sometimes they'll pick a take from a scene that may not be my favorite. But for the most part, if Scott_Bakula_Live says: there's something you're doing that's embarrassing you have to deal with that on the set and you have to deal with it and commit to it and once you've done that, that just becomes part of our job as actors. ScarletRibbon1 in Onstage1 asks: Do you ever feel hemmed in by the rigors of doing a weekly television series? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Sometimes. When you have kids and family outside of work, as I do, you're pulled in a lot of different directions. The work is important to me and my family is important to me so the challenge is finding a balance between work and life. But many people Scott_Bakula_Live says: with many different professions have similar problems. KakarotSuperSayin in Onstage1 asks: Do you know if there are, or will be, any plans for a movie with the Enterprise crew? Rexy1383 in Onstage1 asks: Have you ever had to act to something that wasn't there (like an alien)? Is it tough? Scott_Bakula_Live says: There have been talks about that but the notion is until "Next Generation" is through, no one will be seriously considering any new movies with a new cast. Supposedly "Nemesis" is "Next Generations" last movie, but we'll see. Scott_Bakula_Live says: I've had to do that many many times. I guess it gets easier the more you do it. On "Enterprise" we're supported by such wonderful visual effects teams they always make us look good. In fact they won another Emmy for their work on "Enterprise." Toni-NY in Onstage3 asks: As busy as you are, how do you find the time to make so many personal appearances? I want to thank you for being so generous with your time for us fans. Scott_Bakula_Live says: It's definitely a challenge. Again that's one of the hard parts of working and having a family and wanting to be there for the fans of the show who support us. So I can't do everything, but I try and definitely promote the show as much as I can. Šølîd§ñåkë4Ëvé®™ in Onstage1 asks: When I was a kid, we were all playing Kirk and Spock in our backyards.....now the kids in my neighborhod are playing Archer and Trip and T'Pol. How do you feel about that? Scott_Bakula_Live says: It's kind of crazy. It's weird that kids have action figures of us to play with. (laughs) Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought to be a part of. It's flattering for sure. I certainly know how I felt when Kirk and Spock hit the scene years ago so Scott_Bakula_Live says: it's flattering to be thought of in the same group. skinhorse in Onstage1 asks: Which was your first love, acting or music? I always loved it when you sang on QL. What music do you listen to? Scott_Bakula_Live says: My first love was music and continues to be. I have very eclectic music taste, depending on my mood I listen to a wide variety and styles of music. Ensign_Powell in Onstage3 asks: Where would you say your character, Archer, ranks among the other captains, in overall ability to command? Scott_Bakula_Live says: I really can't speak of any other captains at length except Kirk, he's the only one I'm familiar with. Kirk and I have different styles certainly, but the notion originally was that Archer would be created in the mold of Kirk. I think in terms of my Scott_Bakula_Live says: relationship with my crew and my devotion to the mission, my ship, and representing humanity, we're similar. jdsimtrek5 in Onstage3 asks: What's it like to be part of the elite captains of Star Trek? Scott_Bakula_Live says: It's great. What's been nice is that my captianship and this franchise, this version of the Star Trek fanchise has been so heartily supported by the fans and that makes me and my cast feel great. We don't take it lightly or for granted. diana_from_brazil in Onstage3 asks: Scott what do you like the most about your characther? Scott_Bakula_Live says: I like that he's more of an emotional character than a brainy character and that quite often he works out of his gut as opposed to out of his head. Scott_Bakula_Live says: And I like that he makes mistakes. Workingsci1 in Onstage1 asks: Great job being the first Capt.. How do you like the Trek universe so far? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Oh it's been fantastic! We've just had, for the most part, nothing but a wonderful response and support from the Trek Universe and we've felt very welcome and very embraced. Imagineitnow in Onstage3 asks: What is the greatest challenge for you as an actor in playing the role of Captain Archer? Scott_Bakula_Live says: I think in the beginning the challenge was getting a handle on the language and the demands of being letter perfect in terms of the scripts. And I think now, the continuing challenge is to push the writers and all the other creative teams to keep looking Scott_Bakula_Live says: for new stories, new devices, new ideas. spankadodle in Onstage1 asks: Scott since there has been so much time travel in Enterprises story line do you expect any Star Trek Alumni to be in a future episodes? PS Your the best thing that could have happened to Star Trek, Loved you in QL! Scott_Bakula_Live says: Oh that's nice, thank you very much. There has been talk of other characters finding their way into our franchise and I don't know how that will be achieved. Rick joked about Patrick Stewart finding his way to our show and Whoopi Goldberg was around last Scott_Bakula_Live says: year and said she wanted to do the show. AnitaLSB in Onstage1 asks: I love how much respect Archer shows for alien cultures. And he has had to make some really complex moral decisions about when and when not to help other cultures. What or who do you think guides him? How does he make the distinctions? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Well I think we have a nice blend of consciences between myself and the Vulcan and the Denobulan. I think it's been a wonderfully facet of our show that being the first humans to go into deep space that the whole franchise feels responsible to represent Scott_Bakula_Live says: humanity and my character feels that more than anyone else. Working that challenge into story lines has been very successful in terms of presenting some compelling stories. ShootingFilm in Onstage1 asks: Has the blue screen shooting switched to green? How much time do you spend on that set? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Yes, predominately we shoot green screen. They just changed colors for a variety of reasons. If we tried to shoot blue screen with our blue uniforms it wouldn't work so they pick a color they don't use as much. My schedule is different every week. I work Scott_Bakula_Live says: many different hours each week. ----Layla---- in Onstage3 asks: Hi Scott! I was wondering, who is your favorite author? Scott_Bakula_Live says: I have different favorite authors for different genres. In the Science Fiction genre, I grew up as a Ray Bradbury fan, he captured my imagination and I couldn't get enough of him while I was growing up. BeatniKid in Onstage1 asks: How many times did you bump your head on the rafters in Archer's ready room? Scott_Bakula_Live says: (laughs) That's a great question. I would say between myself and my crew, we're well over a hundred. mtee6 in Onstage3 asks: How did they pick water polo as your sport? That was different. Scott_Bakula_Live says: It was different and it turns out that Rick Berman's son has plays some water polo and has a friend that is quite a good water polo player so that's where Rick got the idea for that different sport. So water polo and lacrosse are my sports. cre6121 in Onstage1 asks: Is your production company busy with any projects right now? Will you be directing or starring in any? Scott_Bakula_Live says: We're working on different projects there could be some I could work on, but we'll see. Godispoohbear1 in Onstage1 asks: The diverse types of characters you played on Quantum Leap had to be a great acting school in and of itself. How does that help you when focusing in on one character? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Well "Quantum Leap" as an expansive acting experience so anytime you can stretch your abilities it always becomes an advantage for any roll you take. What people forget sometimes about "Quantum Leap" I was always Sam Beckett, but I was being perceived by Scott_Bakula_Live says: other people as being someone else. So it was a nuance to kind of reality as opposed to a direct character change every week. Scott_Bakula_Live says: My job was just to give the suggestion of physicality or emotion that would continue in essense allow them to believe that that person was the same. JoOrlando1 in Onstage1 asks: Hi. It’s Jo. You said in St. Louis that you like humidity. We have tons of it here in Orlando. Scott, a Universal rep announced plans for a QL TV movie leading into a series. My question is with you in Enterprise and Dean on Jag, what would be the earlies Scott_Bakula_Live says: That would not be something that would include me. That's a USA Channel thing, they own the rights to "Quantum Leap." HeaVnlYAnGel143 in Onstage3 asks: What kind of person/director is Roxann Dawson, and have you ever met Kate Mulgrew(if you have what was she like?)? Scott_Bakula_Live says: Roxann is a wonderful director. We have a great time. She's definitely embraced "Enterprise" and sees us as a different show than what she did. She's got a great spirit and is a hard working great lady. Scott_Bakula_Live says: I met Kate just recently, for those of you that haven't seen it, they're in Vanity Fair with Madonna on the cover, and her and I are in the picture in there. She came over and introduced herself and couldn't have been nicer. It was really really cool to Scott_Bakula_Live says: be a part of. DishDiva says: Scott, from all of the "ENTERPRISE" fans here on MSN, thanks for joining us from the set and best of luck with this series! Scott_Bakula_Live says: Thank you so much for embracing "Enterprise." I think we're off to a better start than even last year. I encourage people to keep turning other people onto the show. I'm thrilled to be a part of it.
